The Regions: Guainía and Vichada
Guainía
Known for its extensive river systems and rich biodiversity, Guainía is a nature lover’s paradise. It features unique landscapes, including the iconic Mavicure rocks, and diverse wildlife such as pink dolphins and numerous bird species.
Vichada
Characterized by vast savannas and lush forests, Vichada offers a serene environment rich in indigenous cultures and traditions. It’s an ideal destination for those seeking tranquility and a deep connection with nature.
The Communities
Your visit will benefit the following communities: El Palmar, Cajaro, Remanso, El Venao, and Inírida. These communities are home to the Sikuani and Piaroa ethnic groups, known for their rich cultural heritage and traditional knowledge.
Sikuani
The Sikuani people, also known as Guahibo, are indigenous to the Orinoco River basin. They have a profound connection to their environment and are known for their traditional farming techniques and production of mañoco and cassava.
Piaroa
The Piaroa are an indigenous people of the Amazon Basin, known for their deep spiritual connection to the land and their intricate knowledge of medicinal plants. They have preserved their traditional practices and live in harmony with nature.
Itinerary: 5 Days and 4 Nights
Arrival at César Gaviria Trujillo Airport in Puerto Inírida.
Afloat representative will greet you and take you to the Inírida River for a speedboat transfer to Akuani River Lodge.
Enjoy a scenic boat ride through the Inírida, Guaviare, Atabapo, and Orinoco rivers, with a chance to spot pink dolphins.
Stop at the white sandy beaches of the Atabapo River for a refreshing swim and lunch.
Continue to the Orinoco River, visiting iconic landmarks such as the Castillo area and the Head of the Caiman.
Arrive at the Vichada River and settle into your cabin.
Breakfast at the Lodge.
Visit El Palmar community and spend the morning at the local school, engaging with children and sharing cultural experiences.
Proceed to Cajaro community to learn about Sikuani indigenous farming practices, particularly the production of mañoco and cassava.
Lunch at the Lodge, followed by relaxation on the river-view deck.
Afternoon canoe trip along the Uco creek to explore aquatic life, including ornamental fish.
Return to the Lodge for dinner and rest.
Breakfast at the Lodge.
Head to the Orinoco River to experience the Maipures rapids, known as the eighth wonder of the world according to Humboldt.
Navigate the rapids, visiting the famous Balancín where turbulent waters flow between massive rocks.
Return to the Lodge for a farewell dinner.
Breakfast at the Lodge.
Depart by speedboat to the Mavecure Hills, with a brief stop in Inírida to gather supplies and lunch.
Arrive at Remanso community, prepare for a guided hike with the Curripaco indigenous people.
Climb the Mavecure Hill for panoramic views of Pajarito and Mono hills and surrounding rivers.
Overnight at Remanso community with dinner and rest.
Breakfast and depart for Inírida, with opportunities to spot river dolphins and enjoy the unique landscapes.
Transfer to Puerto Inírida Airport for your flight back to Bogotá.
